What do guitars have to do with Energy?

Hands on at the Careers and Technology Centre with Powering Our World

Students at the CT Centre had the opportunity to get their hands on solar panels, bike generators, wattage meters, and even electric guitar parts to experience different ways that electricity is created and used. These activities are part of Powering Our World, a collaboration between Green Calgary and Open Streets Events with curriculum connections to energy, climate, energy transformation, technology, electricity and the environment.

Here you can see the FenderGenerator bike in action on the left, a dissected guitar in the centre, and solar panel charging students' phones on the right.

All students receive a free LED light when they pledge to take a picture of installing it.  These students will be competing in a challenge between them and other classrooms for the highest percentage of participation in the Lightbulb Swap.  The winning school receives a classroom solar panel and a guaranteed spot at our Energy Revolution Fair on June 8th
